REST-oration Summer
On September 8, 2024, Restoration Anglican Church officially opened its doors for our first Sunday service in our building. It has been an amazing 8 months of renovating and establishing, building and growing, serving and learning.
One of the values at Restoration is walking in the way of Jesus – and while we have intentionally taken the time and space needed to do things well, many have been walking while carrying heavy loads.
That’s why, this summer, we are very intentionally RESTING. We believe it is critical to take time to slow down and refocus. We are so grateful for all your service, and now we want to Sabbath over the Summer from some of that.
What does that mean for Restoration?
As we move into the Summer months, we are intentionally inviting all of us into what we are calling RESToration Summer! In the past 8 months of our shared life as Restoration, God has done tremendously more than we could have asked or imagined! It is also true that many of us have done more than we imagined. Starting new things is hard and requires lots of work.
This summer, we will focus on four main areas together:
Rest Together: The events section of our website will intentionally look pretty empty this summer. We will be on break from Women of Courage and Umuganda Days for the Summer, so we will not have our big monthly Missional Community and Serving opportunities, and we are not going to fill that space with more.
We will lean into a time of rest and sabbath, both within individual households, and as an entire community.
Be Together: This summer, Meal Groups will continue to gather regularly around the table to feast, read Scripture, pray, and care for each other. Some groups may take a more casual approach to summer gatherings, but we want to be clear that resting does not mean isolating.
We are still a new church plant, and we want to encourage people to spend time together and build community. This is not a break from the real work of ministry – it is the work of ministry.
Play Together: Similar to being together, we want to encourage our Restoration community to have fun together, bonding over shared hobbies and interests.
We invite you to join our Restoration Slack Channel, where we will have a RESToration Summer Channel where you can invite others to join you for a board game night, hike, bonfire, book discussion or whatever you love doing!
Serve Together: This may feel a little counterintuitive, but stick with us. During this RESToration Summer, we will of course continue to gather for Worship on Sunday mornings. While it takes all of us every week to make Sunday mornings meaningful (liturgy is the work of the people), there are approximately 30 particular roles that need to be filled.
The more volunteers we have, the better we are able to share the load. We want people who have been serving every week, whether in music, serving communion or working with the kids ministry, to be able to have Sundays where they are able to worship through receiving as well as giving. Being a part of a serving team is also a great way to get to know others – that’s why “Together,” shows up in all four aspects of RESToration Summer! If you’d like to volunteer in any capacity on a Sunday morning, fill out this quick survey and we’ll get back in touch with you!! We’ll make sure you get the training you need to serve!
